Personal Touch Makes Home Business Website Search Engine Submission Effective

by. Steven Becker

As if you had the time to take on yet another task for your home business, search engine submission appears to be one item that you can thankfully and quickly automate and get over with - or can you? Perhaps not surprisingly, each and every little convenience seems to be a double edged sword and automatic search engine submissions most certainly falls into this category.

It is noteworthy that a personal touch makes home business website search engine submission effective, while the reliance on an automated service may carry some serious repercussions.

1First and foremost, consider that the major search engines require the response to a variety of questions and options offered. It is the smaller, little used search engines that offer a straight addition process and as such will offer little by way of rankings. Failure to respond to the query of the larger search engines will result in the rejection or simple failure of your automated search engine submission - a failure which may or may not be disclosed to you!

2Remember that the majority of the free search engine submission services ask for your email and other information and in some cases this service is little more than a front for an affiliate marketing email list collection service that is busily harvesting as much personally identifiable information as the overworked home business owners are willing to part with. Before long, your email account will be overwhelmed with spam and your site is still not listed with the big search engines.

3The majority of the main search engines - both nationally and internationally - require the fulfillment of a plethora of steps and even occasional tweaks to the setup of the site. With an automatic submission service this is not accomplished and thus your home business is not included.

As you can see, it is the personal touch that major search engines require which makes the entire process equitable but also highly effective. By offering you the opportunity to readily identify your target niche and be included specifically in certain listings pertaining to such a niche, you will be ahead of the competition that might have just attempted to dump its home business' site listing into a pool of sites that may or may not be in direct response to the web surfer's search request.

If you are determined to use an automated system, consider that it is a process that bears repeating. Many times your listing will be added to a number of free for all listing sites, but as soon as new listings appear, yours will go down. Within a day or two, your listing is buried and in order to stay on top, you must resubmit. Do this too often and the listing site may ban you for supposedly spamming the system. Fail to do it often enough, and the few web surfers who are using that listing site will miss your home business website listing altogether. This is not a good way to showcase your business and highly discouraged.
